Former IGP Of Police Tafa Balogun Is Dead, 74

Tafa Balogun, a former inspector-general of police (IGP), is dead. Tafa died at the age of 74 at a hospital in the Lekki area of Lagos on Thursday evening.

Balogun served as IGP between 2002 and 2005, during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He was born on August 8, 1947, at Ila-Orangun in Osun State, Tafa Balogun, and was the 21st Inspector-General of Police. He was a member of cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Course 3.

Balogun entered into a plea bargain with the anti-graft agency, after which he was sentenced to six months imprisonment.

Also, in December 2005, he was rumoured to have died but the EFCC dismissed the claim, describing it as “propaganda”.
