Argentine football referee and former actor, Nestor Pitana will official France Vs Uruguay World Cup quarterfinal match in Russia.
FIFA has selected Nestor Pitana, to handle the opening quarter-final match between two-time champions Uruguay and 1998 champions France in Nizhny Novgorod on Friday. The 43-year-old will be assisted by compatriots Hernan Maidana and Juan Belatti, as Assistant Referee 1 (AR1) and Assistant Referee 2 (AR2), respectively. Football lovers are already reacting to FIFA’s decision to pick Pitana who’s from Argentina that lost 3-4 to France in the second round.
Pitana is one of the six South American referees at this summer’s World Cup, and he presides over the opening game between Russia and Saudi Arabia that ended 5-0 in favour of the hosts at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Other officials to assist Pitana – was also in action at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil – are Alireza Faghani and Reza Sokhandan, both of Iran, as Reserve Assistants in the match scheduled for Friday.
