Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather insists Anthony Joshua can bounce back against Andy Ruiz Jr after suffering his shock defeat to the Mexican last May.

Ruiz Jr’s victory shocked the boxing world, but Mayweather, who went 50-0 in his career, is backing the beaten champion to bounce back.

Joshua and Ruiz are expected to fight again at the end the year and Mayweather explained boxing was unpredictable.

‘In boxing, anything can happen,’ he told TMZ. ‘Any given night, anything can happen. Can he bounce back? Absolutely,’ he continued. ‘Like I said before, in the sport of boxing, s*** happens.’

Joshua activated the rematch clause just days after his loss and an announcement is expected soon about a date and venue. The second fight will either be in New York at Madison Square Garden again or Joshua will insist the rematch take place in the UK.

Ruiz Jr knocked Joshua down four times on the way to claiming his three world titles and is being backed by the likes of Tyson Fury to successfully defend his title. Joshua will be the favourite again and Eddie Hearn explained why there has been a delay in announcing the details of the second fight.

He said: ‘We had a few late approaches (from other sites) that delayed things. Expect to decide this weekend. Still, U.K. and U.S. (are the) favourites.’Photo Credit: Getty
