Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has revealed he is set for more action in the Far East as he officially introduced TMT to Japan.
The undefeated boxing king, 42, was in Tokyo last night to announce a new deal for Mayweather Promotions. That could lead to several of the American’s fighters competing in exhibition bouts over there – including the former five-weight boxing world champion.
At the press conference, Mayweather said: “You guys have the 2020 Olympics, so we look forward to getting our team over here and making so many things happen. Of course, we took the TMT brand and made it worldwide and not just kept it in the States. We believe TMT Tokyo can be huge. We’ve been speaking about having more exhibitions over here in Japan. Not just myself, but also some other fighters under the Mayweather promotions banner.”
Mayweather earned a mega £52,000 PER SECOND for his one round demolition of Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan back on December 31. The veteran dropped Nasukawa, 20, three times before the fight was halted, though the result won’t go on either fighters’ record as it was an exhibition bout.
Mayweather boasted about the $9million (£7m) purse he received for his showing in Tokyo. It took the American just 136 seconds to overwhelm the kickboxer, who was not only making his boxing debut but also competes three stone lighter than Mayweather. That means Mayweather would have earned an estimated £52,000 per second in the ring, which is his third highest pay rate per second.
Nasukawa was left in tears after the bout while Mayweather looked in good spirits having showboated for the entirety of the fight. Now he could be set for another money-spinning contest, according to his latest comments.
And it could also mean Far East outings for the likes of Gervonta Davis, Badou Jack and hot prospect Andrew “The Beast” Tabiti over the coming years.
