One of the largest market in Nigeria and indeed West Africa Balogun Market is reported to have been gutted by fire in the early hours of today.
According to news, pictures and videos making rounds on Twitter, a building of the market located at Martins Street, Victoria Island caught fire after traders and other members of the market community arrived for the day’s business.

The cause of the outbreak is yet unknown but the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and Lagos State Fire Service was deployed to put out the inferno.

Confirming the incident, as reported by Punch, the spokesperson for the fire service, Adeleke Ashimi, added further that another complex on Dosumu Street, about 500 meters from Martin Street, was also on fire.There was, however, no case of death recorded yet, but it was reported that the inferno destroyed plenty of goods.
