Fire Destroys Goods Worth N38m In Ilorin

A fire disaster consumed a paint shop and two other buildings in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, in the early hours of Saturday, destroying properties worth N38.8 million.

There has been a series of fire incidents in various markets around the country, a phenomenon that had laid waste to properties worth millions and has cost many their only means of livelihood.

This recent incident happened at about 12:31 am at the paint shop located around Balogun Afin, in Ita-Kure the Area of the Ilorin metropolis.

Spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, explained that the shop was suddenly engulfed in flames and destroyed two residential buildings built beside it, comprising a storey building, and a bungalow.

He further disclosed that apart from the two residential buildings destroyed by the ravaging fire, five other shops in the vicinity were also affected.

Firefighters were able to put the inferno under control and prevent it from escalating to the adjacent buildings.

The leading officer of the crew attributed the extent of the damages caused by the inferno to the chemical nature of the burning materials, and the late call by the sympathizers.
