Barrister Olukoya sued the FG for a sum of N500m, for forcefully using security operatives to tear-gas him and the protesters on the 5th of August 2019.

Justice Maureen Onyetenu of the Federal High Court in Lagos who awarded the sum in favour of the lawyer upheld his argument of disruption of the peaceful protest by the Federal Government through the police being “illegal, oppressive, undemocratic and unconstitutional.”

She also directed the FG to tender a public apology to the applicant in three national daily newspapers. The DSS’ argument of not being involved in the disruption of the protest was also upheld by Justice Onyetenu.
