FG Should’ve Sued Twitter Not Ban It – Falana

Human Rights Lawyer and activist, Femi Falana (SAN), who had previously faulted and showed his dismay of the FG ban on Twitter operations in the country. 

The senior lawyer who was a guest earlier today, while on Channels Television’s programme Sunrise Daily, where he said the Federal had other options at dealing with the social media platform Twitter, and shouldn’t have resorted to banning the activities of the platform. Because the government is not permitted to resort to self-help in a constitutional democracy.

Falana stated that what this implied is that the government is supposed to have “sued Twitter if the organization refuses to respond positively to the concerns of the government”.

Femi FalanaMr Falana noted that if the Federal felt it couldn’t have sued Twitter in Nigeria, because it had no physically present office in the country, then it could have filed a lawsuit against the microblogging social media platform in the United States of America or in Ghana where Twitter does have a physical presence and has set-up as its headquarters for its African operations.
