Femi Kuti Fails In Bid To Break Musical World Record With Just A Slight Margin

Femi Kuti, son of late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti made a very close effort to break the current world record for the longest note held on a saxophone. Witnessed on Sunday night May 7, 2017 at the New Africa Shrine, Femi Kuti held a single note on a saxophone for 46mins 38secs.This surpassed saxophonist extraordinaire Kenny G’s record which stood at 45mins 37 secs, but failed to meet and surpass the current world holder Vann Burchfield’s record of 47 minutes 5.5 seconds. Some of the dignitaries in attendance who witnessed Femi Kuti’s feat included Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, the deputy high commissioners of Netherlands and The United Kingdom, among others.Femi produced a continuous tone without interruption by breathing in through the nose while simultaneously pushing air out through the mouth using air stored in the cheeks.
