The 94th Academy Award took place on the 27th of March at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and it was definitely a night to remember. One thing that made the Oscars 2022 unique was the fact that it was held physically for the first time since 2019 and Hollywood celebs were ecstatic and couldn’t wait to show off their dope fashion outfits and yes, they delivered in ace.
As the award night was going smoothly, Chris Rock came on stage to announce the nominees for Best Documentary Feature as usual before he announced the winner he made a series of jokes one of which went wrong when he joked about Will Smith’s wife, Jade Pinkett’s Smith shaved head, making a comparison to Demi Moore’s character’s short buzz cut in the 1997 war drama film G.I Jane.

The joke was all shades of wrong because Jade had earlier revealed that she has alopecia areata. While people laughed, Jade looked visibly displeased, and the next thing that happened was a shock, as Will Smith walked on stage and gave the comedian a dirty slap for that dirty joke. Going back to his seat, he warned Chris to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth. Everyone was surprised by Will’s act and although he later went on to emerge as the winner of the Best Actor category for his role in King Richard, the slap seems to overshadow the fact that that was Will’s first Oscar.

While Will Smith gave his acceptance speech, he apologized to the academy and to everyone. Hours after the slapping incident, Chris Rock came online to apologize for his joke about Jada’s physical look, stating that they are his friends and he hopes forgiveness will come in time. Will has also done the same by apologizing to the comedian but fact remains that the slap helped up the Oscars viewership online.

From jokes to slaps to firsts, the night moved on smoothly after that as the likes of Will Smith, Ariana DeBose, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Jessica Chastain, Greig Fraser, Joe Walker, and Kenneth Branagh won their first Oscars.

The tears and laughter are always welcomed when it comes to the Oscars, appreciating and recognizing people for their hard work and dedication, in this regard, the Oscars 2022 delivered. With all the shocking actions that took place at the 94th Academy Award, everyone is looking forward to the 95th Academy Award because it will be super dope.
