The global fashion industry has paid tribute to Kate Spade, the award-winning fashion personality that committed suicide by hanging on Tuesday.
The American Council of Fashion Designers paid tribute to her by describing her as “a great talent who had an immeasurable impact on American fashion”. The 55-year-old handbag and fashion designer, was found dead in her New York home on Tuesday afternoon. Security agencies have concluded that she died of an apparent suicide.
Her family said in a statement that they were “devastated by Tuesday’s tragedy” and would “miss her terribly”. Mrs. Spade survived by her husband, Andy Spade, and their teenage daughter, Frances Beatrix.
Before her death, Mrs Spade was an editor of fashion magazine Mademoiselle. She created a fashion sensation in the 1990s with her line of handbags, and built an accessories empire that grew to hundreds of shops internationally.
