A few days after the death of 74-year-old Senator Ibrahim Mantu, a former Senator representing Plateau Central Senatorial District and an ex-Deputy President of the Senate, former Military Governor of old Oyo State, General Tunji Olurin, has also passed on, aged 76.
General Tunde Olurin, who governed Oyo from 1985-1988, was said to have breathed his last on the morning of Saturday 21st August at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital LUTH after a brief illness.
General Olurin was born in Ilaro, Ogun State on the 3rd of December 1944, and attended the Nigerian Defence Academy. He served as the Field Commander of the ECOMOG Peace keeping Force in Liberia between 1992 to 1993.
After his retirement from the military, he went into farming and later joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on which platform he contested the Ogun governorship election in 2011 but lost to Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
