Everything You Need To Know About Osun State Governorship Election

It was a busy day in Osun as the populace came out en masse to vote for the the preferred candidate to take the seat as the Governor. Lots of conversion and planning was on ground before the election as famous Nigerian Artiste David Adedeji Adeleke a.k.a. Davido also came out to support his Uncle Adeleke of PDP.

The present Governor Rauf Aregbesola as well as the others members of APC were said to present on how to retained the political seat as APC Godfather Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was also said to be present. Prior to the to the election, a debate was organised to discus the affair of Osun however PDP Adeleke was unable to attend claiming his campaign train was held up in a village where his supporters didn’t allow him to leave as scheduled. Fuwape, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), while announcing the results of the election, said that Sen. Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 254,698 votes while Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 254, 345 votes.

However the the election was declared inconclusive because of cases of ballot boxes snatching that occurred in some polling units during the election. The returning officer mentioned the affected polling units to include Ife north, one polling unit, Ife south, two polling units, Orolu, three polling units and some part in osogbo, one polling unit. He said a total of 3498 votes were cancelled in the seven affected polling units “Based on this fact, I cannot declare anyone the winner of the election,” he said. Fuwape, however, said that the rerun of the election in the affected polling units would take place on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
