Diego Costa was forced off with a hamstring injury during Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 Europa League defeat by Sporting Lisbon on Thursday.
“After undergoing medical exams this Friday, April 13, he has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury to his left leg,” Atletico confirmed in a statement via their official website.
The Spanish side went through to the next phase of the Europa League with a 2-1 aggregate win against Sporting. Atleti were drawn against Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals, while Marseille face RB Salzburg.
Arsenal will play the first leg at home on Thursday, April 26, with the second leg a week later on May 3 at Wanda Metropolitano in Spain. The Europa League final will be held in Lyon, France on Wednesday, May 16.
It is expected Costa will at least miss Sunday’s LaLiga clash with Levante, and he could miss the Arsenal clash at the Emirates Stadium.
