The extension of the ban was announced by the Union’s food safety authority, the ban had been imposed on Nigeria since 2015, saying that the Nigerian beans had been banned because it contained between 0.3mg per kilogram and 4.6mg per kg of Dichlorvos, a pesticide when the maximum acceptable residue limit was 0.01 mg per Kg.

The European Union food safety commission extended the importation ban on the Nigerian dry beans back in June 2019 owing to the continuous presence of the pesticide and has now extended it again for the second time.
