A Nigerian writer Oloye has accused the group which coordinated the finances of the #EndSARS protests, FeministCo of not providing accountability to the youths.
Oloye said this in response to a tweep’s claim that the Feminist Co is a threat to the Nigerian Government simply because it is accountable, According to the tweep, the reports of how donations were spent given by the FeministCo is “super threatening to our opaque, corrupt government.”
“I hate to be the one to point this out but Feminist Co “did not” provide accountability. What they did was say how much they received and spent without any supporting document. How’s that different from when the government says it spent x on y without any audited reports? They simply kept people in the loop of the finances. I can say I spent this on that, if I don’t provide evidence of that payment, I haven’t been “accountable.” I have simply informed.”

“This is why auditors circularise banks instead of simply asking the client how much they have in their accounts. It is the bank that says how much is in the account supported by a bank statement not the owner of the account supported by word of mouth. I don’t believe they have mismanaged the funds, I chalk up the fact that they haven’t been accountable to lack of planning and just going with the flow of things. But please stop saying they have been accountable because they haven’t in the real sense of the word “accountability””, he said.
