Eminem Makes History As The Slim Shady Album Hits 1billion Streams On Spotify

Eminem has only gone and made history with his iconic The Slim Shady album.

The US rapper, 49, has racked up over a billion streams for the 1999 release, breaking a record in the process.

Eminem – whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III – is now the first artist with a staggering 11 albums to achieve the milestone.

The Slim Shady LP joins the likes of 2000’s The Marshall Mathers LP, 2010’s Recovery, 2018’s Kamikaze and 2020’s Music To Be Murdered By in the billion streams club.

The musician’s only album not to have achieved a billion streams is his 1996 debut album Infinite, but that’s only because it isn’t available on Spotify so, really, he’s unstoppable.

Eminem rap godThe news was announced by Chart Data on Twitter, with Eminem’s longtime manager Paul Rosenberg quoting the tweet to write: ‘Congratulations @Eminem!’

The Slim Shady was Eminem’s second studio album with the majority of its lyrical content being written from the perspective of Eminem’s alter ego, named Slim Shady, whom he created on the Slim Shady EP in 1997.

It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and was praised by critics for the unique lyrical style, use dark humour and for showcasing Eminem’s eccentric personality.

The LP’s lead single, My Name Is, became Eminem’s first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and the album went on to win best rap album at the 2009 Grammys, while My Name Is won best rap solo performance.

Eminem became the best-selling music artist in the United States of the 2000s and the best-selling male music artist in the United States of the 2010s.

He’s enjoyed a successful career, often referred to as one of the greatest rappers and songwriters ‘of all time.’

He now boasts 15 Grammys, 17 Billboard Music Awards and an Academy Award to name just a few of his many gongs.

Most recently, Eminem’s daughter Hailie Jade proved herself to be one of her dad’s biggest fans by revealing her Spotify Wrapped for 2021.

The 26-year-old – who is the youngest of Eminem’s two daughters – posted a TikTok to share which artist she listened to most this year.

Hailie shared a screenshot of her Spotify round-up, showing Eminem as her top artist. Not only that, but she was in the top 3% of Eminem’s listeners in 2021, which will no doubt boost Slim Shady’s ego.

Meanwhile, Eminem’s adopted daughter – 28-year-old Alaina Scott – announced earlier this month that she was engaged to her boyfriend Matt Moeller.

The couple have been together for over seven years and announced their happy news in a sweet Instagram post.
