It’s another momentous first Monday in May for Grimes and Elon Musk! “Mom and baby all good,” tweeted Musk, effectively announcing to the world that his girlfriend Grimes had given birth to their first child together.
Last week, he had shared on Twitter that her due date was Monday. Grimes announced her pregnancy in January with a digitally altered nude photograph posted on Instagram—simultaneously sharing the news and freeing the nipple. “I thought about censoring them for a hot minute haha (this may get taken down anyway), but the photo is so much less feral without the nipples,” she wrote when a fan commented on the reveal. “Being knocked up is a very feral and war-like state of being. Might as well be what it is.”
The musician has been candid throughout her pregnancy, telling Rolling Stone about her decision to have a child with Musk. “For a girl, it’s sacrificing your body and your freedom. It’s a pretty crazy sacrifice and only half of the population has to do it. It was really profound to me when I decided I was going to do it, to actually go through the act of…unprotected sex,” she said in the digital cover story. “I’m just like, I have sacrificed my power in this moment. I have, like, capitulated, And I have spent my whole life avoiding that situation. I have never capitulated to anything, so it was just a profound commitment.”
The Tesla CEO and musician have been dating for two years. They first revealed their relationship at the 2018 “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination” Met Gala, where they walked the red carpet together.
