Ekiti State House Of Assembly Impeach The Deputy Speaker And Chief Whip

In a surprising turn of events, the Ekiti State House of Assembly has impeached its Deputy Speaker, Mr. Segun Adewumi, and the Chief Whip, Mr. Akinniyi Sunday, for gross misconduct.
The State House accused Mr. Adewumi of committing several acts likely to bring the Assembly to disrepute, threat to peace of members and obstruction of constitutional functions of the House.

The chairman of the House Committee on Information, Dr. Samuel Omotoso, disclosed that Mr. Adewumi was removed during Thursday’s Plenary meeting with a division list signed by two-thirds majority members and unanimously passed by the State House.

He said: “The House, in its resolution, also mandated the Clerk to ensure that the former Deputy Speaker hands over all property of the House with immediate effect.”
Omotoso also announced that the State House considered the unopposed nomination of Mr. Sina Animasaun as the New Deputy Speaker.
