Nigerian recently-surfaced gay, Bolu Okupe, the son of former Presidential Spokesperson Doyin Okupe, has urged Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu not to make a joke out of the queer community.
This is coming after Uche Maduagwu declared himself a gay, preaching the gospel of his new found self to others. In a more recent post, he dressed up effeminately – wearing a bra – and made his valentine’s day expectation known.
Reacting in a video, Bolu Okupe said he didn’t know who Uche Madugwu is until he came out and has been avoiding to talk about him since then. “Many people have been asking me about the Nollywood guy that came out as gay but I have been trying to avoid giving my opinion”, he said.
He then gave his opinion, saying Uche should rather not make a joke out of the community so as not to make them look stupid. I feel like sometimes in life if you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say anything. I’m not the gay Police, I am not the LGBT, I am nobody to declare who is gay or who isn’t”, he said further.

“For all we know, the guy might actually be gay but in my opinion, don’t make a mockery or joke or spectacle of the situation – don’t make a joke of the whole thing. With this whole LGBT and bringing more awareness to gay Nigerians and Africa, it is really critical, there are lives involved, a lot of people’s mental state is involved, there is a lot of things that are in this LGBT exceptions in Nigeria and Africa. If you are a public figure and you want to come out, it is great but please don’t make a mockery of the situation. At some point, you are making us all look stupid. You pulling a bra and saying you want a big cassava for your Valentine’s Day, I don’t understand, I’m confused. That’s all I am going to say about the guy, I don’t know the guy, I’ve never heard of him and as I said I’m not the gay Police”, he added.
