Champions League winner with Chelsea for 2020/2021 season Edouard Mendy as been announced as the UEFA goalkeeper for the season. This was announced on the official site of the football body.
The Senegalise who joined Chelsea FC last summer from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes for a reported fee of £22million.Born in Montivilliers in northern France, Mendy began his career at Cherbourg in the Championnat National, the third tier of French football, and remained with the Normandy-based club until 2014.
He helped Rennes qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 2020, with the French club finishing third in Ligue 1. Mendy had European club competition experience under his belt already, having featured in four Europa League games in 22019/20.
His wondorous performance last season having the most cleansheet in the competition has made UEFA announce him as the goalkeeper of the season.
The 6’5 goalie came off to allow Chelsea’s second keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to come in at the 118th minutes. Kepa made to saves during the penalty shoot-out which they won the UEFA Super Cup against UEFA Europa League winners Villarael.
