Comedy legend Eddie Murphy is back as Prince Akeem in new snaps from the set of Coming to America II in Atlanta, Georgia.
Eddie, 58, can be seen dressed in a variation of his outfit in the last film, a baggy suit with large overcoat draped across his shoulders. Director John Landis’ 1988 film saw Eddie jet to the USA after being told he was to marry a woman he had never met – instead he goes to America in search of someone he likes better.
Eddie first made his on the comedy circuit with his stand-up in the early eighties, before landing a string of hugely successful roles. His career’s seen him take up roles in Hollywood heavy-hitters such as Beverley Hills Cop, Disney’s Mulan, Doctor Dolittle and, of course, his role as Donkey in all four Shrek films.
He last year welcomed his tenth child, with Paige Butcher – the other nine are with Paulette McNeely, Tamara Hood, Nicole Mitchell, and Spice Girl Mel B. It seems Mel was properly smitten with the comic, as she recently recalled: “We had something special that I’ve never really truly felt with anybody else. I’ve thought I’ve had it, but they’ve lied. His was pure. He is the love of mylife. He always will be.”
She later added: “He showed me what true love feels like, and for that I have the utmost admiration and respect for him. He wanted to have a date with me by myself,” the pop star continued, “I was like, ‘No. Get him to do a dinner party at his house or something like that.’ And so I went along to his house and there was a massive, massive dinner party going on. I’m like, ‘Oh my God. Where is he?’ We first met, I saw him across the room, he saw me and then I freaked out because I’ve never had somebody look at me like that. It was such a familiar look. As in, it felt like home. I could see my soulmate.”
