Foremost pan-Yoruba lawyers association, Egbe Amofin O’odua, has expressed faith that President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will chart a new course for the country’s economic growth and international relevance.

The group said Tinubu’s natural leadership qualities position him to revive Nigerians’ confidence in their country, particularly in this period when patriotism is declining.

It stated this in a congratulatory message to Tinubu on his declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the February 25 presidential election.

The letter, seen by The Nation, was signed by the group’s Chairman, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, SAN, and Secretary, Adetunji Osho.

Egbe Amofin O’odua (The Yoruba Lawyers Forum), said the victory acknowledges the former Lagos State Governor’s “outstanding services and commitment to the nation” as well as the trust reposed in him by Nigerians.

The letter reads: “Your election comes at a critical stage of our national life when patriotism is at its low ebb and it is our firm belief that being the natural leader that you are, your emergence and government when eventually constituted, will not only chart a new course for the nation’s economic growth and international relevance, it will further ensure the resurgence of trust, confidence, and interest of all citizens in the ‘project – Nigeria.’”

The association urged the President-elect to strive to unite the country.

It said: “Leadership has a job to do than just to choose sides. It must bring sides together. To that extent, we commend to you, the words of Martin Luther King (Jnr) thus; ‘Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial (tribal and religious) justice. Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God’s children (Nigerians). Now is the time, to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial (tribal and/or religious) injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.’”

It also appreciated Nigerians “for the decorum and peace substantially maintained during and after the elections.

“We wish the President-elect good health, divine wisdom, and a successful tenure.”
