Famous media personality, Ebuka Obi Uchendu is euphoric over the Igbo commentary for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
He applauded SuperSport, responsible for broadcasting most of the world’s major sporting events and leagues on it’s ingenuity in making provisions for the World Cup to have Igbo commentary.
The BBNaija host tweeted: “The World Cup with Igbo commentary, is sending me!!! Well done SuperSport”
In September, Multichoice Nigeria revealed that viewers can choose any of four local language commentary options for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The languages included; Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, and pidgin English noting they will be available to all DStv and GOtv subscribers.
The world cup have been marred with criticism from the western media, over the country’s stance on alcohol, LGBTQ rights and other cultural conflicts.
The FIFA president, Gianni Infantino was one of the vocal supporters of the host nation, stating that Europeans and others, can survive without alcohol for 3 weeks.
The FIFA Chief said:
“I think personally if for three hours a day you cannot drink a beer, you will survive,” he told his opening press conference in Doha. “The same applies in France, Spain, Scotland.”
World Cup chiefs on Friday banned beer sales around stadiums in Qatar in a stunning U-turn, just 48 hours before Sunday’s kickoff.
Alcohol is largely prohibited in the Islamic nation but the organisers sparked fury from fans with their dramatic late decision.
