Peter Obi

A political commentator, Deji Adeyanju, has called Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for admitting that the popular ‘Yes Daddy’ audio was actually a conversation between him and Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church.

Leaked audio

Adeyanju alleged that Peter Obi lies because he had earlier denied the phone conversation between him and the Bishop.

Recall that when the phone conversation surfaced on the internet, hordes of Obi supporters had said it was fake, alleging that his political rivals might be behind it.

They became more aggressive when a spokesperson of the Obi-Datti Campaign Council, Kenneth Okonkwo, issued a statement confirming that there was truly a conversation between Obi and Oyedepo but the leaked one had been doctored.

“Political criminals are trying to spin the conversation as if the LP candidate was making a religious comment,” Okonkwo had said.

Obi, in a tweet also dissociated himself from the audio, saying it was fake.

“Let me reiterate that the audio call being circulated is fake, and at no time throughout the campaign and now did I ever say, think, or even imply that the 2023 election is, or was a religious war,” he had said.

However, Obi appears to have made a U-turn when he confirmed that there was a phone conversation between him and the Man of God.

While appearing on Arise Television, the former Anambra State Governor did not deny the audio but said he did not tag the election a religious war.

“Call it whatever you want to call it. I am not a religious bigot. Do you think I can just pick a phone and say ‘religious war’? No, I was even begging the bishop to help me ask his people to vote, which was what I was doing for six months — begging,” Obi said.

Reacting, Adeyanju recalled that Obi lied through one of his aides and even threatened to sue the online newspaper that released the audio, wondering why he admitted it after a month.

“He lied through an aide that the audio was fake after initially admitting through Okonkwo, then he comes after a month to admit the same after threatening to sue PG. Peter is always lying,” Adeyanju alleged.
