If there is any weekend in the past few weeks that is filled with so much violence and happenings, it is surely this past weekend. From the death of the popular Yoruba son to celebrities’ marriages and relationship hints, a lot happened, causing the social media space to be shaken. Here are the top 10 of them.
1. The weekend started on a sad note as COVID-19 complications took away the life of popular Yoruba son Yinka Odumakin. Yinka Odumakin was the spokesperson for Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere. Afenifere, Tinubu, Femi Fani-Kayode and many others have paid their tributes to him since his demise.
2. While tributes were pouring in for the deceased on the social media space, monitoring spirits confirmed that Chioma had deleted all the pictures of her singer fiancé Davido from her Instagram page. This further strengthened the rumours that the duo have now gone their separate way. Nigerians, would however, not let Chioma rest as they reminded her that has a son that looks so much like him and that will remain with her forever.
3. Burna Boy seems to be eating his breakfast too as Steflon Don has also deleted his pictures from her page following cheating rumours. Recall that a UK-based model Jo Pearl had come out to say she is Burna Boy’s side chic, claiming that Steflon Don was publicly shrugging off her claims whilst privately begging for answers about her alleged relationship with Burna Boy. The Grammy awards winner was also recorded to have spent a night with another lady following his win. It is, however, not sure what is going on between the two.
4. The 7th edition of the KOKO Weekly Magazine queries who the hope of Nigeria is for an Oscar, seeing thespians from who have over the years pulled up their game – those who are still at the fore front and those who are really no longer on the so forward front on the cover. Further querying if Nollywood can pull Oscars like Afrobeats pulled Grammys, the magazine maintains a positive perception that Nigeria will gets its Oscars. But who will bring it and when? 5. The Nigerian Airforce debunked the shooting down of its jet by Boko Haram insurgents saying no jet was captured neither did it crash in Borno. The Director of Public Relations and Information Headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola also added in its statement that the jet seen in the video released by the insurgents is not the force’s.
6. Wizkid FC dragged the singer’s 3rd baby mama and manager, Jada Pollock over the weekend too, demanding or rather suggesting that the Starboy gets another manager. According to a tweep who is one of the singer’s fan, Jada is more of a girlfriend to Wizkid than his manager and should just face the baby mama duties.
7. The biggest breaking and hot news of the weekend is Don Jazzy’s revelation of his failed marriage, omoh, e restrict airflowsssss! The music producer had had a tell-all interview with media personality Ebuka and wasn’t cool that he left an integral part of his life unsaid. He then took to his Instagram page to reveal the most unthought story – he had been married! Don Jazzy, who is always perceived to be a single man, said he got married about 18 years ago when he was 20 but ruined it and it ended 2 years after. Again, the most shocking story of the weekend! Nigerians could not help but hail MoHits artistes – Dr Sid, Wande Coal, D-Prince and KSwitch and D’banj most especially for keeping it all a secret, even when the Don and the latter fell out.
8. DJ Cuppy made her way to the trends of the weekend as she announced a collaboration with Bella Shmurda. Not wanting the Zlatan scenario to happen again, especially to Bella Shmurda who is rising fast, Nigerians asked if DJ Cuppy will sure pay him this time. Some others passed some wisdom to Bella on how to deal.
9. Another horror that rocked the weekend was the supposed story of ace Nigerian comedian Ali Baba’s broken marriage and why his banker wife evicted him from their VGC home. Celebrities really seemed to be under attack in the past weekend, or rather say, their doings are trailing them, whichever suits each’s situation. A blogger had said that Ali Baba had a side chic whom he had been dating for six years. Ali Baba’s wife was said to have believed they were working together until she caught them, which reportedly led to the crash of their marriage.
10. On a final note for the weekend, Nigerian singer and songwriter Wurld urged artistes to always speak against fans setting them up with other artistes, whether they have an issue with the artiste or not. According to him, fans war affects artistes and many people take it too far.
