DMX has been taken off of his life support system and is said to be breathing on his own after suffering a heart attack on Friday.

The alleged overdose was said to have triggered a heart attack and DMX was in the critical care unit in the hospital.

DMX’s attorney, Murray Richman, has now updated fans on his health, saying that he is now breathing on his own.

However, Richman said: “It would be disingenuous to suggest that I’m not a worried man at this particular point.

“He’s been in the hospital as a result of a heart attack. He has been taken off life support system and he’s breathing on his own,” he said.

The update comes after it was reported that DMX’s kids were travelling to the hospital to visit him.

Richman added that : “I’ve spoken to the family and the family and I are quite close with each other. I am concerned about his well-being and mindful of his significance. I have known Earl for over 25 years and I believe that his music is quite poignant, very important. He’s truly a poet of our time.”

Richman said he could not confirm reports that DMX overdosed on drugs and was not sure what caused the heart attack.

“I’m very sad about it, extremely sad. He’s like my son,” Richman continued. “He’s just a tremendous person, tremendous entertainer, tremendous human being. And so much to offer, so much to say. Not the run-of-the-mill rapper. A person of great depth.”

DMX – real name Earl Simmons – is one of the biggest rap stars to have emerged from the 1990s. The rapper has a history of addiction and has been in and out of rehab over the years.

A statement from his family read: “Last night Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. At this time he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer.

“The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl. Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”

DMX is the father of fifteen children, and his fifteenth child, Exodus Simmons, was born to his girlfriend, Desiree Lindstrom, in August 2016. It was reported that one family member said paramedics tried resuscitating DMX for 30 minutes, and during that time he was deprived of oxygen.

Doctors are believed to have told the family the lack of oxygen severely impacted the rapper’s brain. Upon hearing the news, many celebrities rushed to social media to share their well wishes for DMX and his family.

Snopp Dogg, Missy Elliot and Ja Rule are among thousands of people sending their thoughts to the rapper and his loved ones after he was rushed to hospital.
