Dissolution Of Ghana’s 7th Parliament: NPP, NDC MPs Clash On The Floor Of House

The dissolution of Ghana’s 7th parliament yesterday led to a clash between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmakers and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) counterparts.

The NDC, who are the minority in the 7th parliament has occupied the seats on the right hand side of the Speaker (where the majority in parliament usually sit).The move by the NDC MPs means the NPP MPs must occupy the seats on the left of the Speaker (meant for the minority). This eventually sparked up a huge disagreement in the parliament.

The disagreement turned violent and punches were thrown between the minority and majority members of the parliament. After the voting, the electoral commission in charge begun the counting of the votes. The unexpected situation happened where MP for Tema East, Carlos Ahenkrah caused confusion by snatching the ballot paper. Other MP’s chaces him for the papers.


After the long conflict , of noise making and needless debate among the honorable members, the military and the police had to intervene to calm down situation in the House of Parliament. More than 50 armed military men and police intervene to ensure order in teh House . Videos of the breakout has been shared on social media with people expressing their disappointment at the lawmakers who should be upholding the law.
