Diego Simeone Confirm Kieran #Trippier Can Return To Premier League As Newcastle Bid For Atletico Madrid Defender

Newcastle United have submitted a formal bid for Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier with talks ongoing between the clubs.

Diego Simeone confirmed that the offer has gone in for the England international, although the size of the bid has not been reported.

Magpies manager Eddie Howe has worked with Trippier in the past during his brief spell at Burnley in 2011-12.

Trippier has had an impressive time in Spain since his move from Tottenham in 2019, winning the La Liga title with Atletico Madrid and being named in the La Liga team of the year.Read Also: Manchester United Website Crashes After Club Confirm Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer
The 31-year-old remains a key figure under Diego Simeone, making 14 La Liga appearances so far this season, 11 of which were in the starting XI, with three more starts in the Champions League.

The former Spurs star is under contract at Atletico until 2023 so they are under no pressure to sell and try and cash in this month, but Newcastle have enormous funds to spend under their new ownership and could make both the club and player an offer they can’t refuse.

Trippier has regularly been linked with a return to the Premier League over the last 18 months, although it has been Manchester United rather than Newcastle United that appeared to be at the front of the queue.

The Red Devils may still retain an interest in the right-back and could try and beat the Magpies to his signature this month, although much will depend on whether new interim manager Ralf Rangnick sees the situation.

Talks are ongoing between Newcastle and Atletico, with the Spanish side reportedly wanting £15m for the defender and securing a replacement before he leaves.
