The Nigerian Army has arrested a troop member who allegedly opened fire on his colleague Lieutenant Babakaka Shehu Ngorgi in Bama, Borno State.
In a press release published across the Army’s social media platforms and signed by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa, the ugly incidence occurred at about 10:30 am on Wednesday 29th July at the Unit headquarters.
The deceased was said to be making a phone call when his killer who was reportedly suffering from depression approached him and fired him, leading to his death. According of Sahara Reporters, the suspect was saying repeatedly that he had achieved his aim.
Sagir, however, sent condolences to the deceased family on behalf of the Army, adding that investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident has begun.
“PRESS RELEASE NIGERIAN SOLDIER SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION KILLS A SUBALTERN IN BORNO STATE 1. A trooper of the Nigerian Army serving in 202 Battalion of 21 Special Armoured Brigade Barna, Borno State, went besets at about 1030 hours on the 29th of July 2020 and fired an officer (a Subaltern) which led to his death. 2. The incident happened when the soldier approached the officer who was standing in front of the Unit’s Headquarters making a phone call. “3. The remains of the deceased officer has been evacuated to 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital. 4. Investigation into the case has since been instituted to determine the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident. 5. The family of the deceased has already been contacted. The Nigerian Army sympathizes and condoles with the family at this trying moment, and pray to the Almighty God to repose the soul of the departed and grant his family and other loved ones the fortitude to hear the irreparable loss. May his gentle soul rest in peace“, the statement reads.
