Death Sentence, Castration Not Enough To Curb Rape – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) believes that the death penalty and castration are not enough to curb the rape culture which exists in the country.

ASUU National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun on Sunday.

Ogunyemi stated that while the increasing cases of rape need to be curbed, death penalty and castration are not the way, as it has not resulted in any positive response so far.

“The country has to balance the two by looking on how best we can reform and how best the nation can create the environment to minimise the manifestation of this prevalent.Read more: Osun State University Conducts Virtual Matriculation For Students… ASUU Says It’s A Scam

“How do we create an environment where people will express their frustration on people by oppressing the innocent girls or women in the society.”

Speaking further, the ASUU President said “The people will be able to rediscover their lives in the prison through proper guidance in term of reorientation and reeducation.

“Through this process, the country can reclaim a sizable number of people that are sexually pervasive.”

While highlighting corruption, poor governance and lack of development as one of the root causes of rape, he advised the federal government to put in more work and do better.ASUU National PresidentPhoto Credit: Twitter
