Cristiano Ronaldo Shakes Off ‘Stomach Bug’, Returns To Training

Cristiano Ronaldo made his return to training on Saturday having missed Portugal’s sessions earlier this week with a ‘stomach bug’.

The forward has been at the centre of controversy this week after criticising Manchester United in a bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

Before heading on international duty with Portugal, Ronaldo was ruled out of Manchester United’s last two matches against Aston Villa and Fulham with an unspecified illness.

According to manager Fernando Santos,  the 37-year-old was unable to participate in Wednesday’s training session or play a part in Portugal’s warm-up clash against Nigeria on Thursday because he was suffering from gastroenteritis.

But pictures from Saturday’s training session seemed to show that Ronaldo is back to business within the camp, as Portugal prepare for their World Cup opener against Ghana on Thursday.

Ronaldo has experienced a turbulent season at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag so far, scoring just three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.

Manchester United have started the legal process in a bid to sack Ronaldo following his explosive, tell-all interview last week, which slammed the manager, the club’s facilities and former Red Devils players including Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville.

His hopes of an Old Trafford exit in January could well hinge on whether or not he enjoys a fruitful World Cup with Portugal.

Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Napoli and Sporting Lisbon have each been linked with the Portuguese superstar.
