While Nigerians are yet to recover from the drama and seeming corruption ridding the NDDC, Lagos State has dished out another severe shock of the week, claiming it spends between N100,000 and 1million naira per day on each COVID-19 patient.
Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, disclosed this at a media briefing on Thursday, clarifying that for mild and moderate cases, the State spends averagely about N100,000 daily and it costs about N500,000 and N1m to treat a patient with a serious case.COVID-19: Nigerians Reacts As Lagos Spends 1m A Day Per Patient
Akin Abayomi, however, said it will be very difficult to calculate what it costs the state government to treat a COVID-19 patient, but what he provided was a rough estimate, adding that the cost he arrived at, factored in treatment, cost of feeding, accommodation and the services provided by the healthcare givers and other things.

He disclosed further that about 2,036 COVID-19 patients have not been picked from the community in the last two weeks, due to preference for home treatment, logistic issues, wrong information provided in their forms and inability to reach such patients because their phones were switched off.COVID-19: Nigerians Reacts As Lagos Spends 1m A Day Per PatientThe cost incurred, however, is unbelievable to Nigerians and they have taken to their social media pages to give their reactions. Many are of the opinion that the Government has turned the virus into a business from with they ‘cash out’.
Some others are of the thought that the State will keep lying about its figures and the virus will not disappear soon enough as the officlals are making money from it. See some of the reactions below:
