The National Association of Resident Doctors NARD has lamented the second wave of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, revealing that almost all doctors at the University College Hospital UCH, Ibadan have been infected with the virus.
The NARD Vice President, Adejo Arome, said this during an interview on Channels TV on Friday, noting that the number of infected workers increases by the day.COVID-19: Almost All The Doctors In UCH Have Been Infected
Lamenting, Arome said it seems like the Government is doing nothing to curb it. “It is so disheartening that the number of health workers being infected with COVID-19 is increasing daily and it seems nothing is being done to reduce this number. Apart from that, almost all the doctors in the University College Hospital (UCH), Paediatric Department are affected. It is like that every day.

Speaking on the cause, Arome blamed it on the patients who do not come out straight with their symptoms and thereby putting the health workers at risk. “Patients don’t come out truthfully to tell us their symptoms. Almost everybody now knows what the symptoms of COVID-19 are. They will go to one hospital, the doctors will tell them that this is what is suspected, they will run away and go to another one”, he said.
Arome then called on the Federal Government to initiate policies that will ensure that patients who lie to doctors were being prosecuted, adding that the situation has dampened the morale of medical practitioners in the country as most doctors in clinical practice risked being hit with COVID-19.
He also called on the relevant authorities to provide medical workers and other frontliners with enough Personal Protective Equipment PEP.
