Court Order Restrains APC From Conducting Primaries In Edo State

The crisis rocking the All Progressive Congress {APC} Edo State chapter takes a new turn as the Federal High Court in Benin City, Edo State on Monday, June 8 granted an order restraining the APC and its national chairman from conducting any primary election in the State. Edo State Obaseki

The order was granted ahead of governorship election holding in September, pending the determination of the lawsuit on June 11, 2020.

Six aspirants drawn from two camps are in the race for Edo APC governorship ticket. Five of the aspirants, including a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who recently defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC, and a former Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Pius Odubu belong to a faction of the party which is loyal to APC National Chairman Mr Adams Oshiomhole and also seeking to unseat Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is seeking a second term in office.Ize-Iyamu

Governor Obaseki, on the other hand, is the sole aspirant from his faction of the party.  Credentials of Governor Godwin Obaseki and the five other aspirants who have bought, completed and submitted the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms have been displayed at both the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja and the Edo State chapter office in Benin.Adams Oshiomhole Photo Credit: Getty
