Coronavirus: Met Gala, World’s Biggest Fashion Event Postponed Amidst Outbreak

Vogue boss Anna Wintour has confirmed the Met Gala will be postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Arguably the biggest event in the fashion calendar, the annual event, held on the first Monday of May, was due to be co-hosted by Emma Stone, Meryl Streep and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The theme this year was About Time: Fashion and Duration.

However, in a letter on Vogue, Anna announced the soiree, which benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, won’t take place on 4 May.

She wrote today: ‘Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, About Time, and the opening night gala, will be postponed to a later date.’

The 2020 event was ticketed at $35,000 (£28k) each with tables going for $200k (£163k).

They were often snapped up by fashion houses who then invited stars to attend and dressed them in some fabulous designs linking to the theme.
