Coronavirus: Former Man Utd Midfielder Marouane Fellaini Tests Positive

Former Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has tested positive for coronavirus.

The Belgian has become the first player in the Chinese Super League to contract the deadly bug. Ex-Everton star Fellaini is currently plying his trade for Shandong Luneng in the Far East and was confirmed as having tested positive by a local health department in Jinan after taking a train to the Chinese province on Friday.

The Chinese Super League is currently suspended indefinitely in line with the vast majority of major leagues in all sports around the world as a result of the continuing pandemic. China has seen a dramatic decrease in cases over the last month despite COVID-19 originating in the country.

CoronavirusFellaini spent 11 years in the Premier League at Goodison and Old Trafford before leaving United for Shandong in a £10 .4million deal last year. After putting pen to paper on an eye-watering £250,000-a-week deal he scored 13 goals in his debut campaign in China.

The 31-year-old joins a list of footballers who have been confirmed as having tested positive for coronavirus including Juventus star Paulo Dybala – the third from the Bianconeri to do so after teammates Blaise Matuidi and Daniele Rugani.
