CoronaScam: FG Warns People Against Computer Coronavirus

The FG on Tuesday has raised an alarm about the existence of an android-based malicious and fraudulent coronavirus Ransomware application, which dubiously claims to provide updates on COVID-19 and infections near the user.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, via a statement, released by his Special Assistant, Mr Segun Adeyemi, said the Ransomware blocks access of the users to there personal data and bank accounts and threatens deletion, unless users pay $100 in Bitcoin within 48 hours.

He said the Ransomware App, detected on the website www.coronavirusapp.site, “prompts users to download an Android App purportedly for coronavirus map tracking and heat map visuals.”
The Minister said these are activities of cybercriminals seeking to exploit the current outbreak of the deadly novel virus using the public scare and want to stay safe and updated about the disease for their the greed and nefarious gains.
