Constitutional Tussle: Corruption Charges Against Jacob Zuma’s Son Withdrawn

Charges levied against the son of former South Africa, Jacob Zuma has been withdrawn over constitutional rights. The charges levied against Duduzane by South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority were withdrawn because the allegations against him are also being handled in another inquiry. The case which was due to be presented in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court today, January 24 was withdrawn abruptly. Duduzane was charged for helping to organize a meeting with Mcebisi Jonas, the then deputy finance minister. It also said that a member of the Gupta family, who are friends with the Zumas, purportedly offered him the post of finance minister in exchange for a bribe. Zuma and the Guptas have however denied any wrongdoing. The prosecuting authority has now stated that prosecuting Duduzane would disrupt the flow of justice as Jonas’s evidence before the Zondo hasn’t been fully established. Photo Credit: Getty
