Nollywood filmmaker and member, Lagos State House of Representatives, Surulere Constituency Desmond Elliot has asked his trolls and social media users to ensure they confirm their allegations before they lay any.
This is coming after he was dragged mercilessly for allegedly sponsoring the social media regulation bill in the State House today. Twitter influencer Dr Olufunmilayo had tweeted that the House is developing a the control speech on social media and Desmond Elliot is said to be one of those pushing for it.
Reacting in a series of tweet, Desmond Elliot noted that it is a lie and he is not part of any move to push a bill to regulate or control speech on social media. He further shared a video, asking that people verify their tweets and allegations before misleading others. “As usual, this is fake news. I am not part of any move to push a bill to regulate or control speech on social media. We must ALL verify our tweets before misleading others. Thank you!”, he quoted the tweet.

He further noted that his stance in the House was that celebrities and influencers should direct their followers the stop the HATE and how that translates to stopping social media is beyond him. He added that he as much as everyone has been through so much emotionally, he, in many ways chose to speak only once and that was at the floor of the House.
