A viral video that surfaced on Thursday captured the moment when former students of the Federal Government Girls College, Owerri, travelled to the Imo State capital for their long-awaited reunion only to discover that the hotel had allocated their pre-booked accommodations, reserved months in advance, to politicians.
The video, currently gaining widespread attention, featured a voice lamenting the unfortunate turn of events, stating, “A deeply regrettable incident occurred at the Marriott Hotel in Owerri where reservations for the Federal Government Girls College, Owerri, who had gathered for their 50th global reunion, were left disheartened.”
The Imo State government had in preparation for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 11 submitted a request to secure exclusive booking of all hotel rooms within the state capital, Owerri.
KOKO TV NG reported that the State Commissioner for Tourism, Jerry Egemba, issued a memo addressed to all Chief Executive Officers of hotels located in the Owerri metropolis. The memo, dated November 25 and observed by our correspondent in Owerri on Monday, outlined the state government’s intention to reserve and pay for all available hotel rooms from November 4 to November 11.
In the memo, hotel CEOs were kindly requested to provide comprehensive details of their establishments and accommodation expenses on or before Thursday, October 26, to facilitate timely payment by the state government.
