A 20-year-old church security guard identified as Michael Nwaogwu has been locked up in prison after he was arrested and arraigned for stealing N2,385 from the church’s offering box.
It was gathered that Michael stole the money on Wednesday, 17th July, from the offering box of the St. Dennis Catholic Church, Akoka, Bariga, Lagos. His co-guard, Musa Ayay had raised alarm and confronted him when he noticed the box had been tampered with.The money was allegedly found in Michael’s underwear after a search was conducted, and he got arrested. The Police then arraigned him on a one-count charge of theft before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba. He was later granted a bail of N30,000 with two sureties in like sum, although he is to be remanded in the prison custody until his bail conditions have been met.

The presiding Magistrate, Oluwatoyin Ojuromi, ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant and then adjourn the case till August 19.
