Gary Lineker said: ‘It’s one of the most distressing scenes I think I’ve ever seen at a football match. Christian Eriksen falling to the ground, his team-mates surrounding him. I’m clearly distraught and both his team-mates and the Finland team. Football truly put into perspective. I think the only thing I can remember remotely like that is Fabrice Muamba, he pulled through.Lets hope for his sake that Christian pulls through as well. So distressing.’
Former Arsenal and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas added: ‘I don’t even know what to say really. My body is shaking. All I can think is about Christian’s family, what they must be going through. It’s a very, very sad moment we’re going through and I pray for the very best.’
Alex Scott, the former Arsenal player, continued: ‘I’m getting emotional because I can’t believe it. Everyone at home, what we’re witnessing and like you said Gary, I think football totally goes out the window. You’re thinking about his family, all the rest of the players out there witnessing it as well. I just got on my phone and messaged my mum telling her I love her. And I think it’s a reminder of how quickly life can change just like that.’
