Chinedu Offor Emerges Imo State House Of Assembly Speaker

Chinedu Offor has emerged the new Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, following the sudden resignation of Lawman Duruji. Duruji, who emerged the Speaker on Tuesday after the former Speaker, Acho Ihim had resigned, surprisingly resigned on Thursday, just 48 hours he assumed office.

Duruji had, on Tuesday, defeated Offor by garnering 14 votes, while the new Speaker got 11 votes. Offor’s emergence on Thursday evening was not contested, as he was backed by all his colleagues at the plenary. Offor, who represents Onuimo constituency, lost his bid to win a re-election on the platform of the Action Alliance. He was, in 2015, elected to the legislature on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
