According to the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, the LP candidate clinched the seat after polling 69,136 votes to defeat Nnamani, who scored 48,701 votes.

Nnamani, in a statement he personally signed on Monday, said he had made the decision after consultations with his associates and constituents alike.

According to him, he had decided to quit his membership of the party on account of irreconcilable differences with the national leadership of the PDP.

The former governor also said he has moved on and hopes that his “modest contributions” to the development of his constituency would be the building blocks for his successor.

The outgoing senator thanked Nigerians, “especially the Ebeano political family”, and urged them to remain steadfast in the years ahead.
