Award-wining Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, threw up the question of the night, when she confronted US presidential aspirant Hillary Clinton on her Twitter bio in which she identifies herself first as a “wife”.
In an interview with Hillary at a PEN World Voices Festival lecture in Manhattan on Sunday night, Chimamanda asked the former presidential candidate why she ignored all her career accomplishments, to chose her position as a wife to identify herself on Twitter. See her question below:
“In your Twitter account, the first word that describes you is ‘Wife.’ And then I think it’s ‘Mom,’ and then it’s ‘Grandmother’. And when I saw that, I have to confess that I felt just a little bit upset. And then I went and I looked at your husband’s Twitter account, and the first word was not ‘husband’.”
Hilary replied by saying: “When you put it like that, I’m going to change it.”
