The Lagos State Police Command deployed cutting-edge technology in tracking down a 21-year-old female student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) suspected to have been behind the death of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Super TV, Usifo Ataga.
This was disclosed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi. The 21-year-old suspect, Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu, allegedly stabbed the Super TV CEO, Ataga, to death. The incident occurred in Lekki, a high-brow area in Lagos where both parties had lodged in a service apartment. After the incident, the suspect had fled, leaving the Police with no choice than to track her down.

But in a statement released to the media on Friday, June 25, the Lagos Police Command disclosed that it adopted a scientific method to arrest the alleged killer of the Super TV CEO.
Specifically, Adejobi disclosed that an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit recently set up by the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, played a lead role in the apprehension of the suspect. Further, he revealed that the unit tracked the suspect; even as he added that it was an arduous task owing to the fact that she used different SIM cards, including Nigerian and foreign ones.“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, recently established ICT/Tracking Unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba-Lagos; to adopt scientific and forensic measures of unravelling crimes and criminality in Lagos State. The unit, named D23, headed by SP Kasumu Rilwan, a computer scientist, has been instrumental to the landmark achievements and many feats recorded by the command under the watch of CP Hakeem Odumosu; including the latest arrest of the prime suspect in the alleged murder of Mr Michael Usifo Ataga; one Chidimma Adaora Ojukwu on 23rd, June, 2021.

“Similarly, the Commissioner of Police recently created two Squads, the Special Squad and the Strike Team; at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos, to complement the existing department and units of the command in combating crimes in the state. The new Squads, as well, have played many roles in suppressing and keeping criminals and hoodlums at bay in Lagos State,” the statement revealed.
Chidinma, a UNILAG student, had been involved in a romantic affair with the deceased Super TV CEO. The duo had allegedly been dating for about four months. The affair led them to a rendezvous at the service apartment located in Lekki where Ataga died.

Chidinma, who was arrested by the Police, alongside her father, told newsmen that on the fateful day; she and the deceased were having fun after smoking, eating and having sex. However, he had tried to have sex with her a second time which she objected to.
Thereafter, she claimed it degenerated into an argument and the deceased Super TV CEO turned violent. The suspect disclosed that she had grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him twice. After he became incapacitated and later died, she had left the apartment and withdrew the sum of N380,000 from his account using his ATM card.
She claimed the money was to pay for her school fees; even as she denied knowledge of the N5m purportedly stolen from him.
After she was tracked down, Chidinma was arrested at her father’s residence at No. 57, Akinwunmi Street; Alagomeji, Yaba, on the night of Wednesday, June 23, 2021. The Police claimed that her father was arrested because he had resisted his daughter’s arrest. According to the Police, her father claimed she was incapable of committing the offence she was accused of.
Meanwhile, Chidinma was paraded on Thursday at the command headquarters in Ikeja where she spoke to newsmen.

The Police revealed that items recovered from her include complimentary cards, Access Bank Statement of Account; one Nigerian Passport with No. B50010434 belonging to her; a fake Driver’s license bearing Mary Johnson but with Chidinma’s photograph; a National Identification Card bearing her name; a UBA ATM debit card bearing her name and a University of Lagos ID card bearing her name as well.
Investigation is currently ongoing into the incident, with the Commissioner of Police disclosing that the case will be charged to court afterwards.
