1″ We are underway. Happy Boxing day fellas
3″ Chelsea have launched the first attacking move of the day. A lofted pass is fired up towards the penalty area and almost picks out Eden Hazard, but the Belgian is just beaten to the ball by Ezequiel Schelotto.
5″ Morata bolt his way into the left-hand side of the Brighton box and skips past Shane Duffy with ease. He heads towards the near post and takes on Mat Ryan, but the goalkeeper does well to close down the angle and knock the ball behind for a corner that’s well defended by the visitors.
9″ Brighton lose possession midway inside their own half of the pitch and allow Chelsea to counter-attack quickly, but Morata can’t do enough with the ball and ends up running into the visitors on the edge of the box.
13″ Chelsea are making a slow start to the match but luckily, their opponents are also taking a while to find their feet in this match
15″ The visitors are finally able to combine a string of passes after being forced on the back foot early on, but they’re unable to find a way through a sea of blue shirts and eventually have to play the ball all the way back into their own half of the pitch.
15″ Brighton seem to be gaining the upper hand now. Markus Suttner gets himself into a really good position out wide before curling a dangerous cross into the middle of the Chelsea box. Hemed rise high and was just about to latch onto the ball, but he’s put off by Antonio Rudiger and can’t make decent contact.
20″ Swift Moses! The Nigerian twists and turns down the right wing as he tries to find a way past Suttner, but he isn’t able to do so and has to settle for a corner. It’s whipped in by Fabregas and heads towards the near post, but Schelotto is there to clear the danger.
21″ Chelsea nearly opened the scoring now. A deep cross is sent over to the far post and picks out Rudiger, who quickly nods the ball down to Bakayoko. The midfielder is all alone just a few yards away from goal, but he’s taken by surprise by the German’s nod-down and pokes a rushed shot wide of the post.
24″ Chelsea are gaining prominence on the right flank after Moses and Cesar Azpilicueta link up well, but the Spaniard can’t quite pick out a team-mate inside the box and sees his cross easily headed away by Lewis.
25″ BAKAYOKO AGAIN! Schelotto felt he guided the ball behind for a goal-kick, but the referee awards a free-kick to the chelsea instead. The set-piece bounces around the penalty area dangerously before falling to Bakayoko, who blast a shot well wide of the goal.
27″ SWIFT MOSES! Fabregas picks up the ball inside Brighton’s half of the pitch and immediately sends a wonderful lofted pass into the penalty area and over to Moses. The Nigerian rushes onto it and shoots, but his close-range effort is well saved by Ryan at the near post
30″ Like they did in their last match, Chelsea are enjoying a decent amount of possession thus far, but they have been incredibly wasteful with it against a well-organised and resolute Brighton back line. Brighton are absorbing the pressure, denying their opponents too many clear-cut chances on goal.
In other news, Burnley are currently leading Manchester United 1-0 courtesy of a classic finishing by Ashley Barnes
37″ Rudiger spots a clever run from Fabregas and almost manages to set up the Spaniard inside the Brighton box, but the defender’s ball into the penalty area ends up bouncing around a yard or so ahead of the midfielder before being collected by Ryan.
In other news, Man United 0-2 Burnley. Sean Dyche’s boys are turning Old Trafford on its head
40″ Moses tries to latch onto a ball into the box, but he runs into Suttner and ends up sending his headed effort behind for a goal-kick after being closed down well by the Austrian defender.
43″ Two more minutes of regular time in the first half and Chelsea are yet to unravel Brighton’s mystery. Hazard swirls down the left wing after a nice exchange with Bakayoko outside of the Brighton box, before he laid the ball for Fabregas to shoot, but the Spanish mid fielder fires his strike into the hands of Ryan.
45+ We are into the last minutes of the first half and Chelsea players can’t find a solution to Brighton’s brick wall.
