Chelsea Vs Atletico Madrid – The Ultimate Showdown

For the past seven years, these two giants have locked horn in a series of matches in the UEFA champions league and these meeting has thus far had a negative effect on the pride of London. Unlike other opponents that struggle to defeat Chelsea, Atletico has achieved this feat with great ease so far.
Between the 2012/2013 season & now, Atletico won two of their three matches against Chelsea with at least a two-goal margin leaving the third to a nil-nil draw and they seem to have mastered a way to control all areas of the game in all their matches against Chelsea. They surpass Chelsea by possession, complete passes, shots & shot on target. They restrict the movement of all Chelsea players to their (Chelsea) own half. They ostracise the influence of Chelsea’s attackers leaving little or no stress for their goalkeeper. They comfortable bend their way through the defensive arm of Chelsea’s team. Simply put, they have invented a way to defeat one of the strongest teams in England with just a little effort.
The advent of Antonio Conte has, however, brought about a lot of changes in the strategic power of Chelsea. They now flow around destroying any team that stands in their way with their one of a kind formation that still stands as a wonder to the football world. Chelsea now has a fear factor that they impose on all their opponents even before they meet.
This leads us to the big question. Will the Lions of Conte end their poor record against Atletico tomorrow? Will their 3-4-3 masterpiece have any effect on Los Rojiblancos? Will they finally pose a threat to Atletico? All these questions & much more will be answered in their showdown on Wednesday night.Photo Credit: Getty
