Since 2009, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have been at each other’s throat in quite a number of continental clashes. The Blues have bruised Atletico’s head and Atletico have also bruised Chelsea’s heel.
Between 2009 and 2017, Atletico maintained dominance over Chelsea. They rid havoc on the Blues in moments that mattered most. They denied Chelsea of the opportunity to lift their first Uefa Super Cup trophy in 2012, when Radamel Falcao run-ragged the Blues in a 4-1 encounter. They swept the Blues aside again 2 years later when they completely shattered Chelsea in a thrilling 3-1 match at Stamford bridge.
But the Blues redefined history few weeks ago when Antonio Conte’s men, came from behind to defeat Atletico in Spain for the first time in history. Chelsea’s win on the 27th of September leveled the head to head statistics of both teams. A win for either of the two giants on Tuesday night will go a long way in deciding the strongest of the two.
